Encaustic Moments
The ancient art rarely heard of.
Encaustic is an ancient art form using molten beeswax, damar resin, and pigments. First practiced by the Egyptians and Greeks for murals, funeral portraits, and ship decoration, encaustic has been revived in modern times by artists like Jasper Johns, Brice Marden, and Lynda Benglis. Today, it’s used in diverse, contemporary ways, including painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed media.
